About
Daniel Terrence Robertson
Daniel Terrence Robertson is a Vancouver-based composer and multi-instrumentalist whose gentle voice, tender intuition and high-art deliberation are remarkably resonant. He has shared the stage with the likes of Homeshake, Dralms, Holy Hum (formerly In Medias Res), Francesca Belcourt (Mu), Gang Signs, Skye Wallace, Sam Tudor, Douse, Swim Team, and Hazy. His debut album Death was released by Heavy Lark in November of 2016. Listeners are immersed in Robertson’s clairvoyant interior world of melancholy, intrepid love, and uncertainty of being. Drawing on classical and experimental influences, Robertson composes and records in solitude. Unflinching and beautiful, his songs emerge to trace a retrospective geography of his internal and physical spaces.
“[Death is] a collection of eight beautifully heart-wrenching and haunting piano-driven electronic-influenced songs. Imagine Sufjan Stevens on Xanax playing stark arrangements on a keyboard.” - Beatroute
“Robertson’s voice appears […] as a welcoming-yet-ghastly host, leading the
listener through the album’s ambiance” - Discorder Magazine
“[From] West Coast experimental auteur Daniel Terrence Robertson […] we hear a mix of echo chamber digi-drums, pink-and-lavender tie-dye synth sonics and a gentle, defeated admission from Robertson: ‘God, I'm sorry I tried.’” - Exclaim!
“Synths and vocals are lightly off balance, never really restful, but in love with a groove all the same. Tones of reverence and meditation flirt with a few ghosts over the course of eight tracks.” - Greypoint Owl point
