About

Bryan Cheng, cello
Silvie Cheng, piano

These Ottawa siblings are called the “Cheng-Squared Duo.” They have created an innovative celebration of Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation through music and art. This show will give us a unique multi-sensory experience of Canada’s natural landscapes. Five Canadian composers were commissioned to reflect their own geographical regions in music, complemented synergistically by arresting video backdrops.

The composers, regions, and natural elements are:

Derek Charke –  Atlantic – rain/water
Jordan Pal – Central – fire/metal
Vincent Ho – Prairies – wind/sky
Rodney Sharman – West – earth/mountain
Carmen Braden – North – snow/ice

The premiere is scheduled for the National Gallery of Canada in June, 2017.

About the artistry of the Duo: “Extraordinary playing – you could sense the entire audience caught between gasping and holding back tears. It was that powerful.” – Lake Champlain Islander
