About

Rober Cohen, cello

We heard Robert Cohen twice on our stage in recent years as cellist of the legendary Fine Arts Quartet. He was selected for this marathon performance of the Bach Cello Suites simply because “he plays like a God!” (New York Stereo Review)

Robert Cohen’s early teachers included Jacqueline du Pré and Mistoslav Rostropovich. He has worked with all the great conductors from Abbado to Masur to Tilson-Thomas, and collaborated with Yehudi Menuhin, Menahem Pressler and the Amadeus String Quartet. His many recordings have been acclaimed as “outstanding” (Gramophone) and “compellingly intuitive”. (BBC Music Magazine)

Bach began composing these works exactly 300 years ago in 1717, 150 years before Confederation. They remain an enduring source of fascination, inspiration and consolation.

For this landmark Winnipeg cultural event… “Lovers of fine string playing should drop everything!” (The Guardian)
