About

Every Thursday night, the Purple Room brings you live music at Wee Johnny's Irish Pub! Focusing on a different genre or theme each week, we hope to shine the sonic spotlight on some great emerging talent alongside some established local voices.

On January 18, 3 solo artists who are known for creating beautiful soundscapes will be joining us for this very cool night of music.

Australia's Rob Knaggs is a cellist and composer living in Canada's sub-arctic. Taking inspiration from the fascinating and freezing environment that is alive with wild polar bears, beluga whales, and northern lights, Rob uses his cello and live looping technology to create chilling oceanic soundscapes. Audiences across Australia and North America have been captivated by Rob Knaggs' performance of cinematic soundtrack, post-rock, and ethereal whale song.

Lizzy Burt is a singer and songwriter in the realms of ambient rock and folk. She has also lent her voice and writing to a handful of musical groups in Winnipeg, including Juniper Bush and Basic Nature. In addition to performing, she is the hostess and organizer for the cozy house concert series TBA Concerts.

David Sweatman has been at the heart of the Winnipeg music scene for many years. Whether he's belting out a powerful tune while strumming an acoustic, or taking the audience on a moving, improvised journey with his electric guitar, Dave's music will have you transfixed on the stage.

Wee Johnny's also has great drink and food specials, including $5 wine, $4.75 domestic beer, $5 fancy poutines, and their delicious chicken fingers at only 75¢ a piece!

If you're interested in taking part in a future Sonic Spotlight, email info@purpleroom.ca or contact the Purple Room on Facebook.
