About

Derek Benjamin embodies the modern music producer, seamlessly blending his skills as an engineer, musician, songwriter, and vocalist. His passion for music began early, nurtured by a musical family and fueled by a desire to create and innovate. Derek's dedication led him to the Nimbus School of Media in Vancouver, where he graduated top of his class, earning accolades and recognition for his talent.

Returning to Winnipeg, Derek established himself as a sought-after producer and engineer, working on projects spanning various genres and earning credits on Juno, WCMA, and Covenant Award-nominated albums. His clientele includes notable artists such as YSN Fab, Max Winds, Comeback Kid, and Sebastian Gaskin.

Beyond music production, Derek has also made significant contributions to the film industry. As a member of the Directors Guild of Canada, he's worked on a variety of film projects, including Lifetime true crime films and major animated features like Spongebob 4.

Driven by a deep commitment to the Winnipeg music community, Derek co-founded CTRL Space Records with fellow engineer Terence Ruiz. CTRL Space is a multifaceted music company providing artist development, production, publishing, and label services. Derek's vision is to create a thriving hub for Manitoba artists, connecting them with the global industry and fostering a collaborative environment where they can reach their full potential.

Derek's dedication to artist empowerment extends beyond CTRL Space. He actively mentors young creatives through partnerships with educational institutions and is a vocal advocate for the growth and development of the Winnipeg music scene.
