Marco Castillo
"Valeu"

From the album Trip to Brazil

Featured track, available from June 14 to June 22

The Winnipeg International Jazz Festival is heating up Old Market Square, kicking off its 23rd year with a free opening weekend of Manitoba talent. Running at The Cube June 14-17, there are over 20 local acts to see live, spanning just about every genre. The city's largest downtown music festival boasts over 50 Manitoba acts throughout its 10-day run in the clubs and theatres, in the late night shows, and on the outdoor stage.

One of this year's performers is Brazilian-born guitarist Marco Castillo, who will be at Old Market Square on June 15 at 7:20pm. Castillo's latest recording, Trip to Brazil, just landed a Western Canadian Music Award nod for World Recording of the Year. He'll be back at The Cube with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra Quartet on August 22, playing some Brazilian songs and some Beatles with Brazilian arrangements. The busy performer (who is also the music director of the Carnival Brazilian Pavilion at Folklorama) will also be playing a show this fall to introduce new Brazilian composers and material.

Castillo's song "Valeu" off Trip to Brazil is our featured download this week. Grab it and head out to catch some great live music at Jazz Fest!
