Local tape label Birthday Tapes is set to launch the second edition of its compilation project, Birthday Wishes Vol 2. Featuring 16 artists, including acts from here in Manitoba as well as some from New Zealand and the U.S., the album gets the party treatment on February 1 at The Park Theatre. Five of the album acts will hit the stage to celebrate the release, including JayWood, Rust Owl, Ciel, Housepanther, and Lounge FM. The one-year-old label will release the album digitally and on, you guessed it, cassette tape. To get into the birthday party mood, we've got a track from JayWood, "Quit Your Job", as this week's featured song. He's been recording first full-length this at Collector Studio, which is slated for a May release via Birthday Tapes, and has collaborating with Beatox and Housepanther. You can also catch him during the Big Fun Festival at The Good Will on January 27. Stay tuned for his first set of merch soon and a summer tour of eastern Canada.
