Alternative Folk Indie Singer/songwriter

Everett James

About

Everett James is a singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who writes sad songs, inspired by the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Sharon Van Etten, and Frank Ocean. Everett started performing as a teenager, busking around Winnipeg and playing in coffee shops, doing covers ranging from acoustic versions of Pixies songs to banjo covers of Neil Young. He then became a guitar player for the band Arenas, who would play their Strokes-inspired indie rock throughout Winnipeg, from The Goodwill to the Pyramid Cabaret to the Handsome Daughter. Everett has now returned to his acoustic solo roots, but with a renewed focus on songwriting. He sings about what it means to be queer, teenaged feelings, repression, mental illness, and struggling with religion and often explores these conflicting feelings within the context of his Manitoba Mennonite youth. Everett also enjoys DIY home recording, and has two singles, “Olsen” and “God’s Will” available on Bandcamp and Soundcloud.
