Ivy Venin is an indigenous singer-songwriter from Lake St. Martin. Like many youngsters, she was exposed to her parent's record collection early on, and was fascinated with the popular singers of the day, including Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, and Madonna. But, Ivy's musical journey really began at the age of 16, when she picked up her first guitar. Within a few years she was writing original music and evolving her own unique style, which she describes as "bitchy ass folk rock."
Ivy performed publicly for the first time at an open mic event in 2014 during Winnipeg's Aboriginal Music Week. That's when she learned all about stage fright. Nervousness and inexperience resulted in Ivy playing only one or two open mics a year. But that changed in 2018 when she finally found the courage to start performing more and more. Ivy credits Winnipeg artist and producer Aaron Peters with helping her discover her musical talent and encouraging her passionate stage presence. Ivy and Aaron are looking forward to getting back in the studio soon to finish recording her album, which was put on hold due to covid.
