About

The road to BreakOut West will be paved with export showcases and networking opportunities across the western provinces, including a pre-BreakOut West stop in Winnipeg. Manitoba Music will take over The Handsome Daughter on September 24 for a showcase featuring emerging locals building a buzz including indie pop/R&B artist CEC, powerhouse singer/songwriter Diaphanie, Afro-pop/Afro-fusion act Nú Baby, and Slow Spirit. International industry reps will be in town to take in the showcase, speak about international touring and promotion in MusicWorks sessions on September 23, and meet with local industry and artists.

About the Artists

CEC
A producer and artist from Treaty 1 Territory, CEC has lived in Canada, The US, and Spain, and writes music in both English and Spanish. Their distinct sound comes from their unique blend of mellow RnB, latin rhythms, and pop energy. CEC believes that people are attracted to authenticity and that confidence comes from expressing their true self, which is why they feel liberated in writing more explicitly queer music. One of the RBCxMusic First Up artists of 2022, CEC’s music is distinguishable by its slow groove, intimate lyrics, and soaring vocal layers.

Diaphanie
With a voice as limitless as the prairie sky and a knack for storytelling, Diaphanie draws new breath into the folk tradition by blending refined talent with raw emotion. Having earned her stripes as backup vocalist for Juno-nominated rising star Begonia, and now with her own debut EP set for release in September 2024, Diaphanie's joyful connection with live audiences and breathtaking performances are ready to grace festival stages across Europe, the US, and Canada.

Nú Baby
Nú Baby is a Nigerian born Afro-pop/Afro-fusion singer. Born October 30th and raised in the city of Ibadan. Nú Baby started his Musical career in the year 2018 where he put out a single titled “LY” by May 2020 Nú rebranded under new name Nú baby, to which he dropped his first single Cover you featuring budding act Bnxn. Nú Baby on January 15 2021 dropped his 2pack EP titled “Two for you” which has gone ahead to rack up over 1M streams.

Slow Spirit
Slow Spirit have been fashioning sensitive, folk-tinged indie rock around the soul-searching songwriting of Natalie Bohrn and Eric Roberts since 2013, shortly after the pair met at music school. Boundlessly exploring Alternative songwriting, the music of Slow Spirit is deeply introspective - stemming from 5 years of living through a global pandemic, perched in a cabin at the edge of Riding Mountain National Park.
