About

Critics don’t like your work. What to do? Compose a huge symphony full of self-quotations and cast yourself as the main character. That is what Richard Strauss did in Ein Heldenleben (A Hero’s Life), “a monstrous act of egotism,”according to one reviewer. The result? A fabulous tone poem where every section of the orchestra works overtime.

An audience favourite at competitions around the world, Bomsori Kim performs Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1, an attack on Russian anti-Semitism, rich in Jewish melody and written for the great David Oistrakh. Imam Habibi is a new voice on the Canadian scene, who has quickly garnered awards and praise for his lush and lyrical style.

Join us for a pre-concert chat on the Piano Nobile at 7:15 p.m. each night.
