About
This is going to be a special one, folks. If you were ever going to take our advise on an artist you're unfamiliar with, now is the time. Ansley will be in Winnipeg as a performer at the following day's Indigenous Music Awards, where she is also nominated for Best New Artist and Best Folk Album. The opportunities to see her in some joker's living room likely won't be happening again soon.
Ansley Simpson is a Toronto-based Anishinaabe singer-songwriter and inaugural winner of the BullsEye Media Emerging Artist award from ImagineNATIVE and Slaight Music. Her 2017 debut album “Breakwall” is a gentle, powerful collection of songs that showcase her lilting vocals, clear melodic sensibility, and intricate guitar playing to moving effect. Ansley immerses the listener in a swelling, soft symphony of emotion that builds in gentle intensity over the course of the album’s nine tracks. She is a natural performer, holding audiences spellbound with her haunting vocals and poetics. Ansley’s lyrical hymns to love, presence, and possibility entwine you in an unfolding, sonic world of her own making. This is music to guide you back to the shore, when you’ve been lost too long in the waves.
