Whenever the StuDome gets around to making our official music-nerd Best Albums of 2018 list, you will find “Malice, Mercy, Grief & Wrath” up near the top. It is without a doubt our favourite country album of the year and we are thrilled to be hosting the lady responsible for it - Fosston, Saskatchewan’s BELLE PLAINE! We were lucky to attend a house concert back in the fall at the fabulous T&A Garage where we were introduced to Belle and socks were definitely knocked off. When she asked the audience where she should play on her next trek back to the ‘Peg, Stu was quick to offer up the ‘Dome.
Belle’s reverence for artists who defy categorization has led her to create a brand of roots music that combines vintage blues and swing tones of the 1940s with classic country styles made popular in the heyday of the Grand Ole Opry. Belle’s greatest strength is an unfailing ability to weave stories, genres and emotions with her formidable voice. As an avid collaborator she has performed her music with the Regina Symphony Orchestra, was a guest vocalist on Colter Wall’s breakthrough debut album, Imaginary Appalachia, and saw her co-writing and harmony-singing chops featured on Blake Berglund’s latest record, Realms. Belle’s new album highlights her tremendous voice and prodigious songwriting abilities, and showcases her varied musical influences from Link Wray and the Everly Brothers, to Cole Porter and Neko Case. The record was produced by Jason Plumb [Colter Wall, The Dead South] and features guest appearances from Colter Wall and Kacy Anderson (Kacy & Clayton). While Malice, Mercy, Grief & Wrath contemplates the ephemeral nature of life, it also manages to address themes that are persistently unfolding in our lives: forgiveness, redemption and hope.
The fireplace will be raging and the snacks will be plentiful - all we need is you! Confirm your seats now. Admission at the door: $20.00 (100% of all proceeds to the artist)
