About

Previously known as Lazy Nerd 204, Mello Nerd is a self-taught sound designer and electronic music composer/DJ who's heavily influenced by 8bit gaming and 90s dance music. His compositions fuse the rythms of Daft Punk and Robert Miles with 8bit sounds from the Nintendo handheld systems and Sega Genesis.

Before adopting the name Mello Nerd, Aaron Parsons has been creating experimental hip-hop and chiptune music since 2004. A decade later, he moved on to creating complex grooves using a Gameboy Color and currently with a Raspberry Pi. The infectious Gameboy chipmusic eventually earned Aaron performance spots at the Fringe and a private party at the Canada Games performing his own blend of electro-house-music. Recently Aaron debuted his latest "Do-It-Yourself" Raspberry Pi synthesizer while jamming live with other musicians at Skullspace Winnipeg.

Mello Nerd's chiptune tracks are written using the sound chips of older video game consoles and performed live on mobile gaming systems. The individual sounds and instruments are simple but the creativity has limitless possibilities. Any and all music fans owe it to themselves to explore chiptune and even dance to the music if they choose to do so. Other genres of chip-music will be explored and there will even be a chance to ask questions regarding how the music is made and performed.
