As you may be aware, my husband was recently diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease and is in Stage 5 kidney failure. His kidney is functioning at 7% meaning dialysis is our next step. We found out about the diagnosis while visiting my home community over the summer. (I will post information about kidney disease at the bottom). Western medicine is keeping our hopes up with a future dialysis treatment and eventually a donor transplant. He is currently stabilized with a strict food and fluid diet and medication.

It was a shock to our little family but we love him so much and will support him through this. We were trying to make it a surprise event but my husband is so hard to keep secrets from. When my husband found out about the secret event he was so overwhelmed by the amount of support and love he’s been receiving, it was emotional. It brings him a lot of positivity and healing and we appreciate each and every one of you.

Karmen Omeasoo aka Hellnback is a pioneer in hip hop. He’s contributed a lot to our music scene and paved the way for aspiring artists. We want to celebrate my husband’s 40th Birthday that night with performances by some of our city’s very own artists and appearances from a far. We will also be hosting the event as an opportunity to fundraise with a silent auction and raffle that night as my husband won’t be working until the process of dialysis begins. We have a lot of new challenges ahead of us with still trying our best to live our new normal.
