3 unique concerts in the spirit of the 1919 General Strike's centennial, and to close out our exhibit STRIKE 1919: OUR CAUSE IS JUST.

September 28th and 29th at 2pm FREE on Dalnavert's veranda. September 30th 7:30pm staged inside the historic house (limited availability due to space)

THE CONCERTS:

Saturday 28th, 2pm
Operatic Rebellion
Featuring women and specifically lower class women rebelling against their oppressors. Music will include characters from popular operas like the Marriage of Figaro, Turandot, Don Giovanni and Die Fledermaus. Enhancing that will by stories of the opera plots with reference to how composers wrote for these women on the stage long before it was socially acceptable to for women to act in real life.

Sunday 29th, 2pm
Rebellion Throughout History
This concert will tie in historical events with music. A range of opera selections and songs, both classical and folk, will tell stories of the French Revolution, the Massacre of Glencoe, Joan of Arc, and the American Revolution.

September 30th, 7:30pm *
The Artists' Salon
Where composers are meeting away from fascist governments to be able to share the music they've written in protest. The focus is on composers who have lived through oppressive regimes and how that informed what they wrote. Music will include songs by Poulenc and opera selections by Kurt Weill, who was a very outspoken critic of Hitler.

*Outside of Culture Days, the last concert in the series has ticketed admission through Dalnavert Museum September 30th 7:30pm staged inside the historic house (limited availability due to space) $20 Members, $25 General* *prices subject to gst
