New Music Night is made possible by the support of 103.1 Virgin Radio and the SOCAN Foundation.

There's something to be said about five friends coming together from all over Manitoba to make music in an Oak Bluff basement. Combining powerful lyric-driven songs with catchy melodies, Doubletalk is blurring the lines between the genres of alternative rock and indie pop. Formed in the spring of 2019, the band plays with the chemistry of a veteran group. Fast out of the gates, this new project is quickly gaining momentum by means of passionate songwriting and engaging performances. Bringing a fresh and exciting approach to the Manitoba music scene, Doubletalk is a group to watch in the coming year. Doubletalk consists of Micah Zacharias (Keys & Vocals), Justin Anderson (Guitar & Backing Vocals), Sebastien Lachance (Drums), Matt Granger (Bass & Backing Vocals), and Manuel Unrau (Guitar, Multi-Instrumentalist)

Power pop compositions with a cold prairie soul. Christy Taronno got her start lead singing in Winnipeg alt-rock outfit SETTLERS in 2013. She later played with Paper Machetes as keyboardist, singer and songwriter. Since then she has written music for theatre (Bizarro Obscure, Manic Pixie Dream Girl,) TV (WYNTER) and film (Ruthess Souls, CBC Short Doc - Exposed Nerves). Now, as she embarks as a solo performer, she's serving up a sound that hits you hard like a rock jam, but sits your soul like a jazz standard with influences that include Father John Misty, Lana Del Rey and Elton John.

The Sunset Vibe is an independent rock and folk music project conceived by multi-instrumentalist Julien Poirier who writes, records, performs, and produces the music. As a live act, Julien (guitar, vocals) plays alongside Pat Bulger (drums), Ben Bulger (lead guitar) and Paul Blandford (bass, synth). The Sunset Vibe came out with its first album, New Places, in 2016 but it wasn’t until the release of Addiction man in 2018 that the project started gaining a little traction. The Sunset Vibe played its first show on release day on June 15th, 2018 and continues to play shows every couple months at local venues in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Addiction Man played on some local radio stations and charted the Earshot top 30 albums charts for 10 weeks in a row, obtaining the number 3 spot at its prime for two weeks (on ckuw). The Sunset Vibe just released it's 3rd album, Dream Dispenser, on January 24, 2020. Julien’s music is influenced by hundreds of artists including Pixies and the Strokes, and sometimes gets compared to bands like XTC, David Bowie, and The The. It is clear however that The Sunset Vibe has adopted its own unique sound. a mix of folk, indie rock, pop and even hints of jazz and ska at times.
