About

Indigenous Music is celebrating Father's Day with a special virtual concert on June 21. taking place on National Indigenous Peoples Day and during Indigenous History Month, Festival of Fathers will feature stellar local artists who are fathers and identify as First Nation, Metis, or Inuit performing from their homes.

Presented through the Indigenous Music Development Program (IMDP) at Manitoba Music, the show will include performances by jazz musician Chuck Copenace, heavy metal outfit Dark Messiah, award-winning singer/songwriter Don Amero, country/blues act Gator Beaulieu, hip hop artist Hellnback, musician and composer Jason Burnstick, country/blues singer JC Campbell, country singer/songwriter Kris Paul, country artist Lucien Spence, country singer/songwriter Martin Desjarlais, alt.country singer/songwriter Nelson Little, hip hop artist Stun, and music legend Winston Wuttunee.

Streamed live via Facebook, the event will offer an intimate glimpse into the lives of these working fathers in Manitoba as they share their songs and stories. Festival of Fathers is also an opportunity to bring families and communities closer together on a day when physical distancing may feel even more challenging.

Festival of Fathers is the latest project in a busy series of IMDP initiatives so far in 2020, including last month's Mothers of Music online concert, a biweekly song share and online community gatherings, the 10th edition of the Indigenous Artists Residency, a showcase at Festival du Voyageur, and co-hosting the Indigenous Voices Showcase during Folk Alliance International in New Orleans.

The IMDP was launched in 2004 to help artists and music entrepreneurs that identify as First Nation, Metis, and Inuit develop sustainable careers in the music industry in Manitoba. The program delivers projects and services that respond to the needs of the industry as identified by a steering committee.
