Classical Experimental World Music
The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra is a catalyst for artistic innovation, committed to continual reimagining of the chamber orchestra experience through bold programming, transformative collaborations, and deep community engagement. Rooted in an evolving orchestral tradition, the MCO nurtures Canadian artists and composers, champions diverse voices, and creates meaningful connections between audiences and music. With a commitment to artistic depth, accessibility, and inclusion, we balance known and new works, curate immersive concert experiences, and expand our reach through education and community-driven initiatives.
The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra operates within the rich, diverse, and historically significant cultural landscape of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Founded in 1972, the MCO has a rich five-decades history of vital and innovative programming in Canadian music. It is renowned for exceptional artistry, bold and eclectic programming, and deep community engagement. As one of Canada’s few professional chamber orchestras the MCO plays a pivotal role in Manitoba’s and Canada’s cultural life. We explore repertoire rarely touched by big orchestras and draw audiences in with intimate and exciting musical experiences. The orchestra presents an annual concert series in Winnipeg, currently at Crescent Arts Centre, a historic church venue with superb acoustics, and often appears in community venues, in festivals, and at special events.
Grounded in Winnipeg’s diverse cultural fabric, guided by a mission of accessibility and innovation, and driven by a passion for Canadian artistry, the MCO provides a context where music is more than performance: it is a catalyst for community connection and creative exploration.
