Jaylene Johnson was riding a career high in December 2004. Her sophomore CD Finding Beautiful was receiving lots of airplay and had been nominated for five Covenant Awards and a Western Canada Music Award for Outstanding Christian Recording. She was returning from a successful tour promoting her release when a near-fatal collision with a semi-truck abruptly changed her touring plans.

Weve all heard the phrase life is what happens when youre making other plans, and for Johnson those words have new meaning. Instead of touring hard and promoting her record, the past year she has been recovering both physically and emotionally. "It's been a difficult number of months on many levels, but I realize that I needed to slow down, even without the accident, says Johnson. The depth to which character and faith grow is completely dependent upon the degree of discomfort that we face. In that regard this time has been all about building Johnsons character and faith. The Greek word for character is etching. Maybe Gods been etching me this year, building my character and making art out of meAnd I'm quite sure he isn't finished yet.

Finding Beautiful has been generating its own momentum despite this setback. The first two singles from the project, Wonder and Sit Awhile, were used on the CBS Television program Joan of Arcadia and Butterfly Girl will be used in the final season DVD release of Dawsons Creek. The disc continues to sell via the Internet with CD Baby and with excellent reviews from as far as the UK and Germany.

After a year of recovery Johnson has been slowly returning to live performance and has even begun writing again. My priorities have changed. I feel Im called to write and sing, but also that Im not to worry about what the outcomes of making music are supposed to be. I need to be very careful about where I spend my energy and my resources, but I am eager to see whats next for me. Im in Gods hands."

Johnson will be appearing at Central Baptist Church at 7pm Feb 9th, 2006. She will be performing selections from her two albums accompanied by her usual band, Jane and Lionel Martens.

Tickets are $5.00 at Central Baptist Church 1061 Ellice Avenue (at Wall Street). A faith offering will also be taken during the performance.
