Sketch Goes to Berklee

Sketch Williams is a versatile songwriter, performer and actor who combines classical, soulful sounds and hip-hop beats while delivering consistent hooks and a lyrical story-telling flow.

Seven thousand auditions with one thousand seats to be had, Berklee College of Music in Boston Massachusetts has opened their doors to Winnipegs Sketch Williams to embark on a musical path like no other. Berklee has honed the skills of accomplished artists including John Mayer, Quincy Jones, and Tonight Show Orchestra Director Kevin Eubanks. Any musician who can say: " I graduated from Berklee," their reputation proceeds them and its a real feather in their cap to be able to say that, says scholarship contributor Gloria Estefan.

Sketch humbly credits his successful audition to his great mentors. Ken Adams, long time classical coach; two time Grammy and Juno nominated Fresh I.E.; former WSO Composer in Residence, CBC 2 announcer, and Brandon University professor Pat Carrabre all have helped to shape Sketchs wide open musical approach. The influence of these talented Manitoban musicians along with Sketch will be felt in the music labs and hallways at Berklee starting in January 2008. Sketch has no plans of slowing down performing and will continue to perform back home and abroad while mastering his craft.

Sketch has written hundreds of pieces in various musical styles ranging from orchestral arrangements to hip-hop beats. This versatility is what made him a desirable candidate for Berklee. At 18, Sketchs diligent musicianship is paying off. It has landed him a movie credit his music has been selected to appear in the movie Hybrid for the US network Sci-Fi Channel, the opportunity to provide instrumentation on a Grammy nominated CD, inclusion on an upcoming compilation CD and as a regional finalist in the Radio Star National Songwriters Contest in 2007.
