The Winnipeg Folk Festival has been chosen as one of the Top 100 events in North America by the American Bus Association, the North American trade organization representing the intercity bus industry.

In an annual supplement to Destinations magazine, the association features 100 top events in North America. To get on the list, the festival competed against every type of tourism event from across North America, including art festivals, food festivals, rodeos, exhibitions & fairs, and more.

Of Manitoba events, Folklorama and Festival du Voyageur also made it on the list.

The Winnipeg Folk Festival was first held in 1974 as part of Manitobas centennial celebrations. The 2008 event, July 10-13, will mark the 35th anniversary of the festival. The festival has grown to an event that sees over 62,000 people over the course of its four days. Between 25% and 30% of the festivals paid audience comes from the United States.
