Sylvie Announces New Album / Tour
By
Canadian indie-rock band Sylvie have finished recording their new album with producer J. Robbins (Against Me, Jets to Brazil, Jawbreaker) and have booked a short Western tour to give fans a preview of their new songs. The as-of-yet untitled album is scheduled for release through Smallman Records in October 2008.
The new album comes three years after Sylvie released their critically acclaimed sophomore An Electric Trace (Smallman), which was described as absolutely brilliant (Scene&Heard), and stunningly awesome (Leader Post).
Formed in 1999, Sylvie (Joel Passmore - vocals/guitarist, Riva Farrell Racette bassist, Chris Notenboom guitarist, and Jeff Romanyk drummer) debuted with their first full-length album I Wish I Was Driving in 2003, which received a nomination for outstanding independent album of the year at the WCMAs.
Sylvie has toured with such bands as Minus the Bear, Wintersleep, the Constantines, Small Sins and Uncut.

Singer/guitarist Joel Passmores burnt-like-black-coffee-voice has a unique bite to it, but is easily sweetened by the melodic richness of Riva Farrells own vocalsthey may just be the next Arcade Fire.

Sylvie explore their poppier side to impressive Minus the Bear-style effect, finding a harmonious balance with their nosier inclinations

Sylvie's sound is enticingly uncategorizable -- layered and intricate, drawing on post-punk and math-rock aggressiveness but retaining melodic pop elements
