Please introduce us to Daily:

My name is Daily, I am a solo Hip Hop artist. I go by Daily but, I have also earned two other nicknames. Daily204 for Repping the city I am from Winnipeg, Manitoba and Original Daily because many may try to impersonate my style or sound but there's only one Original and that's Daily.

I am the sole artist, rapper, creator, arranger and originator of all things Daily.

How did you come up with your artist name?

The name Daily has always been a part of me. But, when I was growing up I had some negative influences and mixed with the drug scene, it really became the only name I knew and the only way people recognized me. When I was finally able to break away from those negative influences, I decided I wanted a name that was part of myself, took a piece of where I came from, but was still open to others interpretations. I wanted something that made the fans explore who I was, through my music. Not just an image.

How long have you been playing together with the current lineup?

I have over a decade of dedication put into my craft and I'm still going strong.

If I was to put you on the spot and ask you to define your genre, what would you call it?

If I was asked what my genre was a few years ago, I would have said Rap and I would have said I was a Rapper. But, for the last few years I have found myself growing as an artist. As such, I have moved to a more of a Hip Hop sound that is strongly influenced by Rap. Meaning I consider myself more of an artist at this time and I tend to lean towards the Hip Hop genre but, listeners are able to find many varying influences in my music.

Do you have any major artistic influences?

I have found over the years, I tend to seek out more unique voices. Maybe that's because I myself have deeper more gravelly voice, than most. So, I have tended to seek out artist's that are somewhat similar in sound, Tom Waits, Lemme from MotorHead and rap artist's such as Killer Mike and Bone Crusher, but I'll listen to anything and everything if it's interesting.

What is the most rewarding thing about being in a band?

Getting to express myself and feel I have a voice. Knowing that I have been able to have an effect on fans and even other artists is always rewarding. But, really it comes down to feeling like your being heard.

What is the hardest part about being in a band?

The hardest part of being a solo artist opposed to a band is that, you are all you have. So even though you may be the only one on stage at night you'd better have a good support system to keep you motivated and to keep pushing, because any artist will tell you it's a long hard road out there. So it really helps to have those to lean on.

How did you come across Supernova.com and what would you tell other artists about Supernova?

I came across the SuperNova site while I was looking for ways to perform at the CMA's in Toronto. Thinking Supernova would be a one off shot at getting in. I signed up. Instead, I met some other cool artist's and even though I didn't win the Showcase, I have still been able to connect with artists that I otherwise would've never of met. That and the shows I have always performed at have always been a blast so why not keep coming out to support a good thing.

If I was talking to another Band, Hip Hop Artist or Group I would say, "Sign Up". Like I mentioned it's a good way to meet other artist's, get to perform a few shows, gain some experience or for those more established, we can shake off some rust and stay in performance shape.

Do you have a motto or tradition for putting on a good show?

The mottos I've been working with for the last couple of years has been "No Stopping" It is pretty much the way I have tried to approach my life. Never giving up, believing in ones’ self, no matter what life or the haters throw at you. .

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

Before a show I like to get cleaned up. I'll either shave, shower or if I am on the road, I'll wash my face, it helps me to relax. While I am relaxing, I'll try to picture my set and some of the areas where I want to make the crowd pop.

What is your most memorable moment thus far as a band?

Most people like to normally say their biggest show, festival spot or opening gig but, I actually have loved every tour I have taken across Canada. Just getting to meet the fans and really explore my homeland has been a blast. So, every show is memorable, some more than others. But I find I like to remember my experiences as a whole, with no one spot standing out.

What is the funniest story/strangest experience that you have had as a band?

Funniest story is a hard one because I've have experienced everything from five in a compact car, touring for weeks at a time. To having a local mob attack a tour bus during a video shoot. So, things have happened but, if I had to pick one I'd say the incident that happened this New Years. I was playing a show out of town when we had a thief steal some door and ticket money from our merch table while we we're busy taking pictures with some fans. Long story short, with the help of the fans (one actually saw the thief and another saw the getaway) and some local police (who were at the right place at the right time). We we're able to get all of our money back. But, the funniest part of the whole situation was the thief's choice of a getaway vehicle… It was a city bus… That was very easy to track, with help of local fans.

If you had your way, where would you be in 2 years?

Where do I hope to be as an artist in 2 years? Well, I'm currently working on a new album, one that I have very high expectations for. So, I would like to do more shows in the U.S. Not just crossing the border for a few shows, here and there, but a full blown tour of either the West coast, East coast or even a southern tour would be nice change of pace. I hear they really like to get down, down South. My ultimate goal though, would be to not only expand my music to the U.S. but also overseas. I've always wanted to perform in Europe or even a small tour of Asia would be something I'd be interested in. Bucket list type shows, locally there's not much left for me to prove, so really you never know what show I might show up at. At this point it really is for the love of it.

In closing, is there anything else that makes your band unique that new listeners should know?

Since my music really does come from my own experiences, I feel that alone makes it unique. I'm trying to be original; I'm not trying to copy anyone or any style. So, if there's was one thing listeners should know about Daily is that you should always expect the unexpected. Try to open up your ears and here the story. I have a few club bangers but even those normally come with an underlining message.
