Written, composed and performed by a former jazz student turned solo she-tarist, Kathryn Kerr’s folk project astre has been quietly gaining strength in the Winnipeg scene for 4 years. Kerr used to make lo-fi music under the moniker Dreammachine, all the while traveling back and forth across Canada with her job as an on-board attendant for VIA rail. Months spent looking out the window with every trip changed and evolved her songwriting project into a new name astre. Kerr recorded her first EP,Wood Songs, by herself at her parents cabin in the middle of a truly cold prairie winter.
