PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE - Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival is getting ready for its sixth year of
celebrating local music and art, under a canopy of majestic cottonwood trees.

Every year, while still maintaining its intimate feel and grassroots charm, the festival grows its
attendance and expands its activities. This growth is largely attributed to dedicated volunteer
efforts and a high level of community support and collaboration.

This summer, Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival will see its biggest and most diverse lineup to date.
There will be more than a dozen acts, including two musician workshops, featured on two
stages - a definite change from the festival’s inaugural year in 2013, when there were just three
acts on the bill.

The 2018 festival program will run from noon to midnight on Saturday, August 25th, with free
tent camping on Friday and Saturday night.

"In line with Whoop & Hollar’s mission to showcase diverse local talent, 100% of this year’s
performers are based in Manitoba, particularly Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg," says Josh Wright, festival artistic director. "Festival goers can expect to hear anything from traditional Irish folk music to jazz to blues to indie rock."

The brand new afternoon workshop called “The Song Circle” will showcase singer-songwriters,
and the signature evening workshop known as “High Gravity Stew Brew” will feature bands
coming together to jam on stage, creating new music in the process. Harlequin Hangout, the
festival’s second venue, is set in a quaint red barn and will showcase new and emerging
performers.

This year’s lineup release will be celebrated at the festival’s monthly Open Mic & Jam Night,
which happens together with TWIN’s Album Release Party at Royal Canadian Legion in Portage
la Prairie on Friday, April 27th, 7-11 pm.
