This record was recorded live over two days at the home of Anthony and Savanna Lee Crawford near Loxley, Alabama. I had hired the great southern collective Willie Sugarcapps, grabbed my late road manager Ernie B's old Martin and made the drive in a day and a half. No demos, no preproduction, I would sing a song once and we would roll. My goal was to tap into that ancient southern musical wisdom, fall into that lazy groove, and let the sessions produce themselves. Anthony Crawford (Neil Young, Steve Winwood) recorded and mixed, and added the most beautiful overdubs using piano, percussion, pedal steel, guitar and violin. An experience I'll never forget. Here's how it went down. Corky Hughes played lap steel and electric guitar, Grayson Capps sang, played harp, acoustic and slide guitar, Will Kimbrough sang, played guitars, mandolin, mandola, charango, and harp, Savana Lee sang beautiful harmonies and played the snare drum, and Anthony Crawford played uke bass and kick drum while steering the ship. I played the bass on "Little dreamer" for my late pup Hanna. Recorded in what they call the "dog trot" if you listen with headphones you can hear children playing outside and the odd soft click of Chad Edwards camera, all of which I love. Jay Everett cooked us wonderful dinners and Cathe Steele brought us all together. If you ever find yourself in Silverhill look for the "frog pond at blue moon farm." Thank you for listening.
