"Heartbeat"

The Gumshoe Strut’s ‘Heartbeat EP’ is a personal journey of growth and maturation. A relatable search for rhythm and progress through the topsy turvy landscape of everyday life.

In the 10 years since his last solo release, the Winnipeg emcee/producer took a step back to reflect and focus on family and personal development. Now, with a new found inspiration, the longtime Peanuts & Corn Records collaborator has returned with a fiery display of raw emotion set to a wavy, hot-blooded soundscape.

The EP’s lead off track, Love 40, is an upbeat coming of age manifesto that hits the ground running and sets the tone for the rest of the EP. The wordplay and delivery on Plum and No Wonder are skillfully ominous while helping build towards the heartening crescendo on the lead single and title track, Heartbeat. Those familiar with The Gumshoe Strut will appreciate the honesty and openness of the album closer, Mary Wanted Me.

The EP is rounded out with a nervy and poignant feature by fellow Saskatoon Folk Rap Records artist, Rob Crooks on the timely call-to-action that is Drip, which also features a silky guitar addition played by Winnipeg musician, Kcvee.
