“Happy Medium” is the title of John’s sophomore album, acting as a benchmark for his progression as a producer, pianist and mixer. His stylistic tendencies have progressed and shifted from minimalistic to a more complex, harmony-rich, groove centered sensibility, tipping his hat to jazz and lo-fi hip hop. Tonally, John became fixated on the sounds produced by his apartment-sized piano and used that as the foundation on which the record was built.
