Classic Rock Invades Manitoba

Posted on

The big hair, ripped jeans and spandex may be gone but the rock sure isn't. Fans of acts like Journey, The Beach Boys, Boston, Creedence Clearwater Revisited and Carole Pope will gather at the Grand Beach Entertainment Centre July 29 - August 1 for four nights of classic rock at Manitoba SummerFest.

For the many who thought they'd never again see their favourite arena-rock bands from the '60s and '70s, SummerFest is a fantastic opportunity to catch some legendary performers, many of whom have left an undeniable mark on the musical landscape. While some bands are performing without key members - such as The Doors (of the 21st Century) - the line-up still promises to be a fantastic time for music fans and party-goers.

For those looking to catch some local content, July 29 features Battle of the Bands finalists as well as a closing set by Winnipeg rockers IWITNESS (who will also play August 1 at 8pm). The winner of the Battle of the Bands will also perform on August 1.

SummerFest Bands include: The Doors of the 21st Century, Boston, Journey, The Beach Boys, Blue Oyster Cult, Mark Farner formerly of Grand Funk Railroad, Eric Burdon & The Animals, Vince Neil of Motley Crue, Ratt, Slaughter, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Kenny Shields & Streetheart, Harlequin, Prism, The Headpins, Wild T & The Spirit, Goddo, Rough Trade.

50% of the proceeds from the July 29 concert will go to support Winnipeg Harvest.
