For a few days in March, Manitoba will make its home in Texas at North America's biggest music festival and conference. Seven Manitoba acts - including 2005 JUNO Award nominees The Wailin' Jennys and The Waking Eyes - are headed to Austin for South by Southwest March16 to 20, making this year Manitoba's strongest showing at the premier event. The Juno nominees will be joined by rock act Novillero, hip-hop duo Mood Ruff, retro-rockers Telepathic Butterflies, recent backdoor Grammy winners The Duhks, and hardcore band Comeback Kid.

In 2004, four Manitoba acts headed to SXSW, showcasing for some of the industry's top professionals as well as rabid audiences in several Austin venues. In 2005, The Jennys and The Duhks make a repeat performance, as do the Butterflies, who played the festival in 2003.

Now in its 18th year, SXSW features over 1200 acts from around the globe performing every imaginable genre on over 50 stages throughout America's music city. This year, the conferences features keynote speaker Robert Plant, as well as showcases from some well-known acts like Kathleen Edwards, Erykah Badu, and The Be Good Tanyas.

For the eight year, MARIA joins forces with NXNE (SXSW's sister conference in Toronto) in presenting the hottest party at SXSW at the Caswell House - a gorgeous mansion in Austin, where industry and artists gather to eat, play, and schmooze.
