Three Local Acts Up for Top Video Spot

Gwen Stefani, 50 Cent, Coldplay, Comeback Kid. Comeback Kid? While the local harcore act has definitely been making waves internationally with its latest release Wake the Dead on Smallman Records, it's still surprising to see the band included in a list of music superstars. But that's exactly where you'll find Comeback Kid, along with hip-hop trio Mood Ruff, and Juno-nominated rock outfit The Waking Eyes when you log onto MuchMusic's website.

MuchMusic's show Powershift has been doing what its name might indicate: shifting the power and allowing viewers to exercise some control over the music program's content. All viewers and music fans need do is visit the show's website and vote for their top five video picks from the provided list for the week. The votes get tabulated and those votes turn into video programming. Viewers can tune in to Powershift the following Tuesday at 8pm EST to catch the results.

The list of videos includes the likes of Avril Lavigne, Backstreet Boys, and Destiny's Child. It also includes three Manitoba acts, a groundbreaking national showing for the local market.

One of Canada's most respected hip-hop acts, Mood Ruff put out its latest effort, I Do My Own Stunts on May 28, followed by a cross country tour. The Waking Eyes are still riding high from a 2005 Juno nomination for New Group of the Year as well as critical acclaim for the Coalition/Warner released Video Sound in September.
