Send + Receive: A Festival of Sound returns to various downtown Winnipeg venue October 14-22, 2005. Presented by Video Pool Media Arts Centre and CKUW 95.9 fm, the eighth annual festival promises a compelling week of dynamic sound-based media arts programming and a post-festival tour entering Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. This year's festival will feature an international array of artists from across Canada, the United States, Germany, and beyond. The festival also highlights the incredible depth of talent here in at home.

Manitoba has developed a reputation for being a hotbed of talent in the electronic and experimental scene. This year's festival features acts like 3x3is9, collaborating with acclaimed artist Bernhard Gunter from Germany via pre-recorded sound/video. Abstract hip-hop duo Two Rocks of Stone will share the stage in an evening of unique and dissonant beats along with Mood Ruff's Ofield. The festival will see the premiere of video and web-based work 22:30 by Erika MacPherson and a broadcast of the Mannlicher Carcano Radio Hour on CKUW 95.9 fm and UMFM 101.5 fm. Founded in Winnipeg over fifteen years ago, this trio will give a long-distance collaboration, from Los Angeles, Guelph and Winnipeg. Cinematheque and Send + Receive team up to bring a special appearance by Venetian Snares during the Sound of Light Film and D Video Series and a screening of NFB film -40.

Send + Receive will again broadbast Sonic Emissions Radio Series with longtime sponsor CKUW. Winnipeg's other campus radio station, UMFM 101.5 fm, is a new sponsor, opening Send + Receive up to new audiences.

Also new this year is Send + Receive's eastern tour, featuring visiting artists Aki Onda, Jason Kahn and former-Pegger Steve Bates. Sandro Perri (aka Polmo Polpo) and Nilan Perera, Jason Tait (The Weakerthans) and Douglas Moffat will join them along the way.
