New Independent Music Charts

The Official UK Chart Co has announced changes for the charts aimed at independent releases. The UK Independent Charts will track singles and albums where at least 50% of ownership is not in the hands of a major. Independent status used to be determined based on distribution. The independent chart was initially created in 1978 and hasn't really been changed since then.

At the same time, the new Independent Breakers charts will also help draw attention to successful indie acts that haven't broken the top 20.
