Winnipeg has a new music festival to celebrate this month.... the inaugural POP! Et Cetera kicked off on October 7. Coordinated by local DJ and promotor Mike B. of Better Swimmers, POP! is offering up a dozen nightly concerts at The Lo Pub and Pyramid Cabaret, including hometown favourites and out-of-towners.
This year's line-up features local acts LeBeato, The Lytics, Get Famous!, Oldfolks Home, We Eat Meat, Jicah, Not Animals, and the Goodform crew (Mikey MMMuscles/Mike B., Rob Vilar, Jamall Knight), as well as expat Vitaminsforyou.
Other bands making their way in for POP! include Shout Out Out Out Out, Library Voices, Young Galaxy, Bend Sinister, In-Flight Safety, Peter Project, Gravity Wave, Minto, Oromocto Diamond, and more.
To launch the festival, Better Swimmers compiled a seven-song sampler EP, which can be downloaded for free from the festival's website.
Mike B. intended for the festival to start small with just a weekend of events but this year's festival, well, exploded. The intention for next year it to expand to more venues, include more bands, all-ages shows, workshops, and more.
