Eleven Manitoba acts are in Toronto this week to showcase for industry, media, and fans at one of Canada’s biggest music industry conferences and festivals. Canadian Music Week (CMW) runs March 10-14 and features 500 showcasing bands over five nights at 45 live music venues. The annual event encompasses not only the popular music festival, but also a conference, trade show, and multiple awards shows, including the Independent Music Awards, also know as The Indies.

This year’s list of showcasing acts features rock outfits Comeback Kid, Sights & Sounds, Domenica, Jicah, and AM Glory. Joining the rockers will be indie popsters Boats, hip-hop acts Grand Analog and The Lytics, soul/funk singer Maiko Watson, and pop singer/songwriters Jaylene Johnson and Jodi King. Local industry professionals will also be heading to CMW, including: Paradise Alley Production’s Dale Penner, Burning Circus Management’s Glen Willows (AM Glory), and Pipe and Hat’s Kenny Huynh (The Lytics).

Four Manitoba acts are up for The Indies this year, including: country rock superstars Doc Walker for Favourite Country Artist/Group, Propagandhi and Comeback Kid for Favourite Punk/Hardcore Artist/Group, and Grand Analog for Favourite Urban Artist/Group. A couple of expats are also up for awards, including pop chanteuse Chantal Kreviazuk and Brandon-born violinist James Ehnes for Favourite Pop Artist/Group and Favourite Classical Artist/Group, respectively. The 10th annual awards will take place on March 13 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel and will be broadcast live to air on XM Satellite Radio's The Verge and recorded for future broadcast on Galaxie.
