Iceland and Manitoba Converge with Nuna (now)

Posted on

Iceland and Manitoba converge for four weekends of cultural exchange in May. Núna (now) kicks off its multidisciplinary arts festival April 30, bringing together artists from Iceland and Manitoba. The fourth annual event hits various venues throughout Winnipeg and Gimli, showcasing  dance, visual arts, film, theatre, literature, and, of course, music.

Núna offers several concerts with homegrown talent on stage with some of Iceland's best, as well as events blending music and visual arts. Fans of indie electro pop have two chances to catch Winnipeg's Oldfolks Home with Reykjavík's FM Belfast. Icelandic indie singer/songwriter Ólöf Arnalds will also be featured over two nights with acclaimed Manitoba songstress Christine Fellows and electronic artist Blunderspublik.

You can also get an exclusive sneak preview of the soon-to-be released feature-length tour documentary featuring hometown heroes The Weakerthans. Directed by frequent Weakerthans collaborator Caelum Vatnsdal, We're the Weakerthans, We're from Winnipeg  documents the band's cross-Canada tour from the spring of 2009. The documentary is also set to air on MTS TV Winnipeg On Demand in coming months.

This year's celebration includes everything from screenings to multimedia pieces, theatrical productions, lectures, parties, and more. Below is a quick guide to music at Núna. For full schedule info please visit www.nunanow.com.
