Manitoba Acts Land 11 Canadian Aboriginal Music Award Nods

Five Manitoba recording artists have netted 11 nominations at the 2010 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards (CAMA). The 12th annual awards are held in conjunction with the Canadian Aboriginal Festival, which runs November 26-28, 2010 in Hamilton, Ontario. The hardware will be handed out at a gala event on November 26 at the Hamilton Place Theatre. 

Rock outfit Eagle & Hawk has landed an impressive five nods for its latest release, The Great Unknown. The band is up for Best Album of the Year, Best Group or Duo, Best Rock Album, Best Songwriter, and Best Producer Engineer. The Great Unknown has racked up 15 award nods this year, including the CAMAs, Western Canadian Music Awards, Native American Music Awards, Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, and Canadian Folk Music awards, and a win in the Contemporary Modern Instrumental category at the Indian Summer Music Awards

Country chanteuse Desiree Dorion is a double nominee this year, picking up nods for Best Female Artist and Best Country Album for her new album, Soul Back Jack. Dorion is also up for the upcoming Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards in the Best Country CD category.

Another double nominee, hip hop act Skelpa Squad, is up for Best Rap or Hip Hop Album for its new release, The Thief & Council, and Best Rap or Hip Hop Music Video for the album’s title track. Skelpa Squad also picked up an APCMA nod for Best Rap / Hip Hop CD.

Other nominees include Al Desjarlais and his album Winds of Change Best Country Album and Brad Moggie for Best Fiddle Album for his release, All Fired Up
