Comeback Kid, Doc Walker, and Ash Koley Land Indie Award Nods

Three Manitoba acts have picked up nominations for this year’s Independent Music Awards, aka The Indies. The 11th annual awards will take place on March 12 at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel and will be broadcast live to air on XM Satellite Radio. 

Already named Group of the Year for the fourth time at the Canadian Country Music Awards, Doc Walker is up again this year for Country Artist/Group of the Year.

Hard-touring hardcore heroes Comeback Kid are up for Punk/Hardcore Artist/Group of the Year for the second year in a row, this time on the strength of their acclaimed release on Distort/Victory, Symptoms + Cures.

Quirky pop duo Ash Koley, who released debut album Inventions on Sony/Nettwerk last October, got a nod for Pop Artist/Group of the Year. They’ll also perform at the Canadian Radio Music Awards during CMW, where they have two nominations in the A/C and Hot A/C categories for hit single, “Don’t Let Your Feet Touch Ground.” 

The Indies are one of four awards shows that take place during Canadian Music Week (CMW), one of Canada’s biggest music industry festivals. An unprecedented 14 Manitoba acts are heading east to showcase for industry, media, and fans at CMW, which runs March 9-13 and features 500 showcasing bands over five nights at 45 live music venues. Local acts making the trip to Toronto include Inward Eye, Royal Canoe, Winnipeg’s Most, Magnum K.I., JP Hoe, Fame, Jason Kirkness, Bryce Pallister, Jerry Sereda, as well as Imaginary Cities, Del Barber, The Liptonians, Les Jupes, Hope Atlantic, and Take Me To The Pilot, who are set are set to play Manitoba Music’s showcase on March 11 at The Garrison.
