Power 97 Announces River City Rocks Class of 2011 Band Search

Power 97 is once again on the hunt for the best independent rock bands in Manitoba. The rock radio stations has launched this year's edition of its River City Rocks competition, which offers winning bands a prize package geared to helping them promote their music. Bands can apply online at the River City Rocks website, which is powered by Supernova.com.

Music fans can get in on the action starting May 1. The public can vote up to once per day all next month to help to help Power 97 determine the top 20 bands in the River City Rocks search. The top 20 bands will be judged by a Power 97 panel, selecting the best four bands to win it all: a membership to Manitoba Music, a gift certificate to Quest Musique, a promotional package including an upcoming Power 97 concert appearance, and radio airplay on Power 97 for the entire summer.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Manitoba bands to make their mark on the music scene,” says Power 97's music director, Casey Norman. “Both Supernova.com and Power 97 are eager to discover the River City Rocks Class of 2011.”

Rock acts Broken Halo, Prophet, The Afterbeat, and Talk City beat out hundreds of other local bands to take the top four spots in last year's River City Rocks competition.
