Make your move at MEME: Electronic Music Festival Celebrates Second Year

Posted on

The Manitoba Electronic Music Exhibition (MEME) is seting the turntables and getting ready to celebrate its second year as one of western Canada’s major electronic music festivals. From June 23-26 you can groove to the beats of renowned local, national, and international DJs and artists at venues throughout downtown and Osborne Village.

Manitoba DJs and producers Kasm, LeBeato, Cyclist, Joe Silva, Solidaze, The Seed Organization, John Norman (aka Khemlab), and more share the bill with the likes of international headliners Process Rebel (Amsterdam), Thomas Fehlmann (Berlin), and Bluetech (Hawaii). Old Market Square will be the central meeting place with all day dance DJ sets during the weekend, while Vancouver's Hitori Tori and a slew of locals will keep The Zoo and Ozzy’s will be buzzing. With an impressive line-up of daytime and evening performances, night owls can keep their dancing shoes on and attend the after parties.

Boosting the festival atmosphere, MEME mixes sights and sound. Visual artists contributing to most of the events during the festival include Mrghosty and Jaymez, who were seen at the Winnipeg Art Gallery for “RE: Play – Game Culture and Technology Art Fair” earlier this month.

The special training component of the festival is back again this year with workshops taking place at Manitoba Music on June 24 and June 25. This year features a set of presentations and workshops including a career panel of digital media professionals from pro audio, pro video, visual effects and gaming. Participants can also learn electronic music production tips and tricks during a segment demonstrating mobile music production on the iPhone & iPad. The Saturday session will conclude with a panel of digital media professionals along with a Q&A.
