Youth Launch Re-Generation: A Prairie Mixtape

Posted on

Manitoba Music and ACI Manitoba have teamed up once again to run a program aimed at Manitoba youth interested in careers in the music industry. Over the span of three months, the Youth Mentorship Program provided a dozen students from various southern Manitoba high schools with a chance to expand their knowledge of the industry and develop their own music business skills.

Students participated in a series of workshops facilitated by local industry professionals covering different aspects of the music business, from touring to releasing records to marketing and publicity. The project was coordinated by Derek Kun of rock act Burnthe8track.

The workshops helped to develop the students’ practical skills, put to the test with a CD compilation project. Coordinated, marketed, and promoted by the students themselves, the album features tracks from independent Manitoba artists and is branded under the name Re-Generation: A Prairie Mixtape.

Re-Generation is a compilation CD featuring an eclectic collection of music from talented and young local artists in Manitoba. Featuring nine songs -- including contributions from The Minority, Fire & Smoke, and Brand New Sky -- the CD features music styles ranging from hard rock to folk and exemplifies the diversity of the local music scene here in Manitoba. These new tracks showcase some of this province’s up and coming young artists.

The Re-Generation compilation CD will be released May 1 at The Park Theatre, with performances by CD contributors rock act Stone Throw Second, up-and-coming pop starlet Savannah Rae Boyko, and singer/songwriter Avery Eramchuk.
