Get to know a more about Moutique's Mar Sellars and Michael P Falk from Head in the Sand who will be on hand for our 'Passport Please: International Development' info session this Wednesday, February 6.

Mar Sellars, Moutique

Mar is originally from Vancouver and currently resides in Toronto, having just moved there after eight years in Europe (London and Berlin). She has played in numerous bands, worked at CBC and BBC radios, promoted gigs and most recently worked as a European booking agent for Moutique, a German agency. She's toured Canada, Europe and the UK, including Germany seven times (!) with her own bands. Working alongside CIMA, she has been booking new Canadian artists' first UK and EU tours.

She's written about music for numerous publications and web sites in Canada and the UK. She loves music and radio and is currently a correspondent for Monocle's London radio station, alongside booking tours.

Michael P Falk, Head in the Sand

Michael is the frontman and leader of Les Jupes, owner of Head In The Sand Records, and a record producer. Les Jupes has toured North America and Europe multiple times since the release of its debut album Modern Myths, and is currently working on a follow-up. Head In The Sand is home to Vancouver's Rococode, Demetra, the first Royal Canoe record, and will be putting out Oldfolks Home and Iceland's Apparat Organ Quartet in 2013. As a recording engineer and producer, Mike is currently working on new albums for Ismaila Alfa and Moses Mayes, and has worked with Royal Canoe, The Liptonians, Monika Wall, Ian LaRue, Twilight Hotel, Record Of The Week Club, a bunch of WSO-ers, and much more.

About the workshop 

Breaking out of your home town and into other parts of the country is hard enough. What about an entirely different part of the world? In this session, you’ll learn techniques, strategies, and the nuts and bolts of getting you and your music to the world. This workshop will discuss issues such as immigration, branding, strategies for approaching UK/European clubs, festivals, and more.
