Meet the MusicWorks Panelists - Attack the Charts: Getting Played on Campus Radio

Get to know more about CKDU Halifax's Gianna Lauren, CFUV Victoria's Justin Lanoue, and Michael Elves from UMFM Winnipeg who will be on hand for our 'Attack the Charts: Getting Played on Campus Radio' panel Tuesday, June 11.

Michael Elves, Program Director, UMFM Winnipeg

Michael is and has been involved in Winnipeg’s music scene for over a decade, and in his current position as program and music director at UMFM 101.5 for over seven years. Beyond his work at UMFM, Michael writes for local and national publications and blogs; is a juror for: the Polaris Music Prize, FACTOR, and Manitoba Film & Music, and the Western Canadian Music Awards; hosts Thank God It’s Free Range (Fridays, 6:30-8pm) and The Bench Jockeys (Fridays, 11am – noon); occasionally writes of one-sheets and press releases; and is artistic director of Islendingarock at Islendingadagurinn. 

Justin Lanoue, Music Director, CFUV Victoria

Justin is the current music director at CFUV 101.9FM in Victoria, British Columbia, which has led to industry-wide recognition including multiple College Music Journal (CMJ) Award nominations for both himself and the station including Music Director Of The Year, Most Adventurous Programming, Best Community Resource, Most Supportive of the Local Scene and Station Of The Year. Lanoue is also a member of the jury for the Polaris Music Prize. His experience in campus radio includes programming at three different stations over the years allowing him to see how different campus/community stations in Canada function.

Gianna Lauren, Station Coordinator, CKDU Halifax

Gianna, native to Alberta and past-resident of Ontario, currently calls Halifax home. As station coordinator for CKDU, she works to find harmony between work in campus-community radio and life as a recording artist.

About the workshop

How do emerging artists get their music to campus radio and get a shot at being added in to rotation? From submitting materials and one-sheets, to follow-ups and tracking spins, this workshop will cover it all. The session will also provide artists and artist representatives an opportunity to talk with key radio station staff while learning more about the always-important medium of radio.
