MEME 2012 at The Cube

MEME, the Manitoba Electronic Music Exhibition, plugs in this week for four days of cutting edge multimedia art and music. Celebrating its fourth year and running August 15-18, downtown Winnipeg becomes the playground for homegrown and world class DJs and artists who will be showcasing music and digital art in venues such as the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Union Sound Hall, The Cheer, Pantages Playhouse, and outdoors at The Cube in Old Market Square.

MEME began in 2010 as a collective of like-minded people who are passionate about electronic music. With a focus on Canadian musicians and artists, MEME has also been drawing attention from international artists. This year, headliners represent Austria, the U.S., and Canada. The local electronic music scene shines at the festival with artists like John Norman, Joe Silva, Seed Organization, and many more.

An educational component of the festival exposes aspiring electronic music artists to mentoring and networking opportunities. On August 17, a unique, full-day audio workshop will be held at Manitoba Music, hosted by Winnipeg’s Precursor Productions. The one day intensive aims to further the knowledge of electronic music production and professional careers within the industry, and offer emerging artists and producers a rare mentoring opportunity. Training will be delivered by local professionals and international artists who will be performing throughout the weekend. Click here for info and registration.
