Manitoba Music Launches Fall/Winter Season of MusicWorks, Introduces New DIY Workshop Series

We're pleased to announce the new fall/winter season of MusicWorks, our professional development workshops for the music industry. Kicking off September 11, MusicWorks presents experienced music industry pros, hot new trend setters, and tastemakers speaking on the most important topics for today’s artists and music industry entrepreneurs.

This year, we're launching a new MusicWorks segment: the DIY Series. This stream of workshops offers emerging artists and entrepreneurs, as well as veterans looking to update their skills, the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the music business. The series starts with important topics that everyone needs to know, including bio writing, mastering social media, pitching to college radio, touring, and understanding copyright, and ends with planning a record release. Top industry names will be on hand to show how each of these pieces fit together to create a cohesive strategy. Members can register in advance for all six workshops in the DIY Series for only $45 (a 25% discount).

MusicWorks will also host some of the most influential music professionals from across Canada and beyond for the Industry Panel Series. These workshops will feature an indepth focus on timely topics, including artist management, licensing, understanding A&R, and more. This season, the popular Case Study segment will also return, offering a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the career of a successful Canadian artist. Members can register in advance for three Industry Panels for only $60 (a 20% discount).  

This year’s slate of panelists is a veritable who’s who of the Canadian independent music industry, including innovators like Outside Music’s Evan Newman, The Agency Group's Adam Countryman, Third Side Music’s Florent Cavel, Indica Records’ Franz Schuller, RGK Entertainment Group’s Jill Snell, Maple Music’s Maureen Spillane, and more. MusicWorks will also draw on the considerable expertise of Manitoba-based pros like Empirical Artist Management’s Stephen Carroll, and award-winning songwriters Murray Pulver, Keri Latimer, and Jaylene Johnson.

All workshops take place in the Manitoba Music Industry Resource Centre, 1-376 Donald Street, unless otherwise listed. Space is limited and advance registration is strongly encouraged.
