Manitobans don't really need an excuse to get out and take in some of this province's incredible talent. We're known for our arts and culture scene, including numerous internationally-acclaimed musicians, composers, visual artists, dancers, poets, and writers. So when Culture Days comes around, there's always plenty to see and do and hear.

Culture Days is a collaborative coast-to-coast-to-coast volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. The fourth annual Culture Days weekend runs September 27-29, and features thousands of free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate “behind-the-scenes,” to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, designers, and other creative people in their communities.

This year, there are dozens of music events throughout Culture Days' run featuring just about every genre imaginable, including a special performance by groundbreaking vocal group Camerata Nova in Flin Flon; Winnipeg Folk Festival's Folk in the City workshop with Greg MacPherson, Keri Latimer, and Jess Reimer at the Millenium Library; Manitoba Music's guided intro to songwriting; a focus on the future of folk at The Folk Exchange with Charlotte Kosc and Sc Mira; and numerous performances throughout The Forks and The Cube.

On Saturday night, Nuit Blanche will take over for an all-night exploration and celebration of contemporary art. The Nuit Blanche concept originated in France in 1984 and has since spread to many cities around the world, making its Winnipeg debut in 2010. A diverse range of events are focused in Winnipeg's Downtown, the Exchange District, and St. Boniface, including a screaning of the new Del Barber doc at the Rachel Browne Theatre; a takeover of Deer + Almond's parking lot; and the Winnipeg Art Gallery's annual all-nighter.
