Meet the MusicWorks Panelists - DIY Series: PR & Publicity
Meet Kat Stewart from Webster Media Consulting, who will be on hand this Wednesday, March 19 for our DIY Series: PR & Publicity workshop.
About Kat Stewart
Kat has worked in the Canadian music industry for 15 years, managing press campaigns for an ever-growing list of Canadian and international artists and labels.
Beginning her career as an in-house publicist at Canadian distributor Outside Music, she managed publicity campaigns for distributed labels including Ninja Tune, Sub Pop, Saddle Creek and Def Jux. In 2007, she took a year off of music to work at digital communications company iStudio, building on her digital and social media marketing skills, developing online strategies for brands such as Gatorade and eMusic.
She returned to her first love - music - when she took a position at Canadian imprint MapleMusic and Fontana North Distribution. There she managed the publicity for music icons Robbie Robertson, Steve Earle, Taylor Swift, as well as Shad, Battles, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, My Morning Jacket and many more.
Currently working with independent publicity firm Webster Media Consulting, her roster includes Shad, Maestro Fresh Wes, New Country Rehab, Bry Webb, Robert Ellis, The Wooden Sky and Flash Lightnin'.
About the workshop
There are 350 media people in Canada and the US that need to hear your music if you are planning on having a long term career in music. Undertaking a national media and publicity campaign to promote your brand may seem daunting, but it’s not impossible. This workshop will focus on the role of a publicist and how an artist can effectively do their own publicity and get their music into the hands of these industry taste makers.
