Manitobans Earn Canadian Folk Music Award Nods

Four acclaimed Manitoba-based artists have landed nominations for this year's Canadian Folk Music Awards, including nods Jocelyne Baribeau, Patti Kusturok, Crooked Brothers, and Steve Bell. The hardware will be handed out on November 8 at the 11th annual bilingual gala, this year in Edmonton. 

Francophone singer/songwriter Jocelyne Baribeau picked up a nod for French Songwriter of the Year for her latest recording, Entre toi et moi. Baribeau, who earned nods at the Gala des prix trille or earlier this year, previously landed a CFMA nomination in 2013 for her children's act, Madame Diva. Former Manitoba artist Geneviève Toupin is also nominated.  

Acclaimed traditional fiddler and Manitoba Fiddle Association Hall of Famer Patti Kusturok picks up her first CFMA nominations, for Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year for her album, Milestone. 

Dark roots trio Crooked Brothers landed in the New/Emerging Artist of the Year category for their latest release on Winnipeg label Transistor 66, Thank You I'm Sorry, which has been getting raves from national and international press. 

Murray Pulver, Dave Zeglinski, and Steve Bell share a nod for Producer of the Year for Bell's award-winning 25th anniversary retrospective, Pilgrimage. The trio was nominated in this category in 2011 for Bell's album, Kindness.
