Manitoba Artists Land Covenant Award Nods

Manitoba artists are poised to bring home top honours at this year's Covenant Awards, which honour Canadian Christian music. Jaylene JohnsonThe Color, Scribe, and Fresh IE picked up multiple award nods, which will be handed out at the 38th annual gala on January 27.

Johnson's name is attached to seven nominations this year, including Album of the Year for her latest recording Potter & Clay, Female Vocalist of the Year, Folk Album of the Year, Folk Song of the Year, Inspirational Song of the Year, A nod for Pop Song of the Year for a co-write with Jordan St.Cyr and Evan St.Cyr, and CD/DVD Artwork of the Year for design by JUNO-winner Roberta Hansen.

Hansen is also up for CD/DVD Artwork of the Year for her work with Faye Hall on English poet Malcolm Guite's Songs & Sonnets, which was released on Steve Bell's label, Signpost Music.

Winkler-based pop rock outfit The Color landed nods for Artist of the Year, Group of the Year, Video of the Year, and Recorded Song of the Year.

Grammy-nominated rapper/songwriter/songwriter Fresh IE picked up nods for Rap Song of the Year for his cowriters with Ezekiel Mcmurtry.

Local rapper Scribe is also up for Rap Song of the Year for his cowrite with Tha Gate Keepa, Bezalel, and Swift.
